Ice Giants join the Polar Mission at Monaco’s Oceanographic Museum

More than a million visitors have already had the opportunity to plunge into the heart of the Arctic and Antarctic, discovering the great explorers who have ventured there, the species that have adapted to these extreme environments, and the fascinating culture of the Inuit… Through this exhibition and its 5 thematic areas, you’ll explore the mysteries of the North and South Poles, and understand the challenges of polar scientific research. The highlight of the visit is the “IMMERSION” room, where you can experience the beauty and fragility of the polar worlds up close! At the end of the tour, get involved in the preservation of these unique ecosystems by supporting the project to create three major Marine Protected Areas in the Southern Ocean, representing nearly 3.8 million square kilometers of protected land!

The exhibition "Les Géants des Glaces"

From April 10 to October 06, 2024, polar bears and emperor penguins are the protagonists of the new exhibition Michel BASSOMPIERRE’s Ice Giants at Monaco’s Oceanographic Museum. By highlighting these species, the Oceanographic Institute and the artist, in collaboration with Galeries Bartoux, hope to move visitors and raise their awareness of the major issues facing the polar regions. Come and meet these new polar residents in the lobby and on the roof terrace!

"Sculpting the living A conference by and with Michel Bassompierre at Monaco's Oceanographic Museum

As the highlight of Michel BASSOMPIERRE’s exhibition Les Géants des Glaces, presented until October 6, 2024 at Monaco’s Oceanographic Museum in partnership with Galeries Bartoux, animal sculptor Michel BASSOMPIERRE will be modelling a polar bear live at the “Sculpter le vivant” evening conference. During this artistic performance, three specialists in the polar regions will speak to raise awareness of the threats to polar biodiversity; Conference scheduled for June 14 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Conference Room.
